Trusting God's Timing in Every Season

Writer: Marietjie GeldenhuysMarietjie Geldenhuys

In a world that moves at a relentless pace, where news cycles shift in moments and crises seem to appear without warning, it’s easy to be swept up in fear, uncertainty, and disappointment. Yet, as Spirit-filled believers, we are called to live by a different rhythm—the timing and word of the Lord.

God’s Timing is Not Our Timing

The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 3:1: "To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven."

God operates according to God’s divine calendar, not ours. The challenge is trusting that the Lord’s timing is always perfect—even when we don’t understand it.

How often do we get impatient when things don’t happen as quickly as we expect? Whether it’s a delayed breakthrough, an unanswered prayer, or a sudden storm in our lives, the temptation is to question God rather than trust the Lord. But Isaiah 40:31 reminds us that those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength.

Looking to God, Not the World

In times of crisis, where do we turn? The world offers temporary solutions—quick fixes, distractions, and empty promises. But the Spirit calls us to lift our eyes to the One who never fails.

When calamity strikes, do we react in fear, or do we stand firm in faith?

Do we allow disappointment to harden our hearts, or do we press into God’s presence?

The psalmist declared in Psalm 121:1-2: "I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."

Instead of looking to the world’s instability, we must anchor ourselves in the unshakable foundation of God’s Word, presence and promises.

Disappointment as a Divine Setup

What if our disappointments are divine appointments? Romans 8:28 assures us that God works all things together for the good of those who love the Lord. Even when things don’t go as planned, God is still moving behind the scenes.

Joseph’s story is a perfect example. Betrayed by his brothers, thrown into prison, and forgotten by others —yet he never lost sight of God’s hand at work. When the time was right, God elevated him to a place of influence. His suffering was not in vain; it was preparation.

Could it be that your current season of waiting or hardship is God’s way of positioning you for something greater?

How to Respond in Difficult Seasons

  1. Be led by Holy Spirit – The Holy Spirit is our guide and comforter. In challenging times, seek God’s presence through worship, prayer, and the Word.

  1. Declare the Promises of God – Speak life over your situation. The enemy wants to fill your mind with doubt, but God’s Word is the final authority.

  1. Refuse to be Moved by Circumstances – Walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). What we see is temporary; what God is doing is eternal.

  1. Trust the Timing of the Lord – Just because you don’t see it now, doesn’t mean God isn’t working. God’s plans will unfold at the appointed time.

Do not be discouraged by delay or distraction. Instead, lean into the Spirit and trust that convergence with God’s time and your time is coming.

 Keep Your Eyes on Jesus

Hebrews 12:2 calls us to “fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.” When our gaze is on the Lord, we won’t be shaken by the storms around us.

No matter what season you are in—waiting, warfare, or breakthrough—know this: God is never late. God’s timing is perfect. God is working all things for your good. So stand firm. Keep your heart aligned with God’s. The appointed time is near!
