Navigating Seasons of Turmoil and Transition

The word turmoil—defined as “a state of great disturbance, confusion, or uncertainty”—has become increasingly prevalent in recent times. Between 1800 and 2019, its usage apparently rose by 450%, reflecting the challenges and instability many experience today. As we move into 2025, the call to navigate these seasons with a Spirit-led perspective is crucial.

In John 16:33, Jesus reminds us: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

These words anchor us in times when life feels chaotic. Turmoil, whether it manifests as financial struggles, relational strife, or personal despair, often allows us to reflect on the true state of our hearts and our walk with God.

A Time of Encounter

The Lord is speaking in this season, exposing what lies beneath the surface. This is not for destruction, but for redemption, calling us to:

  • Look and Listen: Discern what God is revealing

  • Expose the Hidden: Allow light to shine in areas of our lives which need a touch from God

  • Course Correct: Return to God’s covenant and priorities

As 2 Timothy 3:1-4 warns, difficult times expose the works of the flesh and test the depth of our faith. Yet, God’s promise remains steadfast: God's hand will manifest when we seek the Lord.

Staying on Course

When everything seems overwhelming, it’s easy to lose focus and faith. However, God is offering a reprieve—a “stop season” to evaluate, repent, and renew. Here’s how:

  1. Repent for drifting away

Revelation 2:4-5 reminds us to return to our first love and repent for drifting away.

  2. Speak Life, Not Curses

Avoid agreeing with doubt or negativity. Instead, echo Psalm 51:10-12:“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

  3. Identify Distractions

Write down the people, emotions, or situations that have taken God’s rightful place in your heart (Exodus 20:3).

  4. Acknowledge Turning Points

Recognise events that led to despair or hopelessness. Bring these to the altar (1 Peter 5:7).

  5. Renew Your Covenant with God

Like Jeremiah 31:33 declares, God desires to strengthen our relationship with the Lord.

Moving Forward

Seasons of turmoil and chaos, provide an opportunity for transformation. God is igniting a fresh wind of the Holy Spirit to strengthen and sustain us through every trial. Take heart, for in Christ, we can navigate turmoil and transition with clarity, peace, and renewed purpose.

As we approach 2025, let us cling to God's promises, trusting that the Lord is working all things for our good (Romans 8:28). Now is the time to stand firm, stay singular in focus, and allow Holy Spirit to lead us into victory.
